The Role
ChicknLegs is growing fast, and we’re looking for a Director of Sales to lead our sales team and help take that growth to the next level.
This is a hands-on sales leadership role. You’ll be responsible for driving revenue, leading and developing our sales team, growing key accounts, building strong retailer relationships, and creating the structure and accountability we need as we scale.
You won’t just manage the sales organization — you’ll be in it. Coaching the team, meeting with customers, digging into the numbers, negotiating deals, and identifying opportunities. You’ll know what the data is telling you, ask questions when the numbers don’t make sense, and use those insights to decide where the team should focus and what needs to change.
What You'll Do
Key Account Management
- Own relationships with ChicknLegs’ largest and most strategic retail accounts
- Lead key account planning, executive-level retailer conversations, negotiations, and frequent business reviews
- Develop account-specific growth strategies focused on increasing distribution, doors, product assortment, sell-through, and overall account revenue
Revenue + Portfolio Growth
- Own sales performance and execution across ChicknLegs’ wholesale and retail business
- Identify and pursue new accounts, strategic partnerships, channels, and other revenue opportunities
- Manage the sales pipeline and ensure opportunities consistently move forward
- Stay close to customers and the market to identify emerging opportunities, competitive trends, and retailer needs
Sales Leadership + Team Development
- Lead, manage, and develop ChicknLegs’ sales team through clear goals, coaching, accountability, performance management, and ongoing development
- Establish individual and team sales targets, monitor performance, and drive consistent execution against revenue goals
- Build a high-performance sales culture centered around ownership, follow-through, strong customer relationships, and results
- Recruit, onboard, and develop additional sales talent as ChicknLegs continues to grow
Data + Sales Strategy
- Own the sales metrics that matter, establishing and tracking KPIs across revenue, account performance, sell-through, product performance, pipeline activity, conversion, and other key drivers of sales performance
- Use data to make decisions — not just report results — by identifying trends, diagnosing performance gaps, testing assumptions, prioritizing opportunities, and adjusting sales strategy and team execution based on what the numbers show
- Own sales forecasting and regularly evaluate actual performance against targets, forecasts, and historical trends
- Translate sales data into clear priorities for the team, determining where to focus time and resources, which accounts and opportunities have the greatest potential, and where performance needs to improve
Sales operations + Cross-Functional Leadership
- Build and continuously improve scalable sales processes, account management standards, reporting systems, and team operating rhythms
- Partner closely with Marketing, Product, Operations, and Finance to connect customer demand and sales forecasts with inventory, launches, merchandising, and broader company planning
- Represent ChicknLegs at trade shows, races, industry events, retailer meetings, and other sales opportunities
Ideal Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive sales experience, including meaningful experience leading sales teams
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth and consistently achieving or exceeding sales goals
- Experience in apparel, running, sporting goods, consumer products, wholesale, or a related industry strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and developing high-performing salespeople
- Strong experience managing key accounts, national accounts, and/or strategic retail partnerships
- Experience growing existing accounts while developing new business
- Strong understanding of wholesale sales, account management, pipeline management, forecasting, and sales planning
- Demonstrated experience using sales data to run a business — establishing KPIs, analyzing performance, forecasting revenue, identifying opportunities and risks, and translating insights into action
- Highly analytical and naturally curious; comfortable digging into the numbers, challenging assumptions, asking why performance is changing, and using evidence to guide decisions
- Experience building or improving sales processes, reporting, accountability systems, and team structure
- Strong negotiation skills and confidence navigating executive-level customer relationships
- Able to move easily between high-level planning and hands-on sales execution
- Competitive, results-oriented, and energized by ambitious growth goals
- Strong communicator with excellent follow-through and relationship management skills
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving company where priorities and processes continue to evolve
- Strong business judgment and an ownership mentality
- Passion for running and a strong understanding of running culture strongly preferred
- Ability to work from our Raleigh, NC office
- Ability to travel up to 25% for retailer meetings, trade shows, races, and other business needs
- ChicknLegs super fan — duh
If you don’t meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we still encourage you to apply.
